Forbes comes under fire for Bridgerton article

15:17, July 3

Forbes has come under fire for publishing an article about two characters from the Bridgerton series. The latter indicated that the world is “still not ready” to see an on-screen romance between two people with different body types.

The article, written by Virgie Tovar, a "leading weight expert," focuses on the relationship between characters Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan, and Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton.

In the author's opinion, the on-screen relationship between these two characters "breaks the conventions of the romantic plot," presumably because Nicola is "bigger" than Luke.

However, the phrase “mixed-weight romance”—a novel by people with different body types—caused a sharp reaction from readers, many wondering why there was a need to draw attention to the weight of the characters.

Fans of the series on social X criticized the author and the publication, furiously ridiculing the use of this wording.

Some have questioned why the latest leading couple of Bridgerton was used as an example of "mixed-weight romance," while others have wondered why no articles have been written about larger men dating thinner women in the TV series.
