Prince Harry shares his fears about Meghan Markle returning to the UK

13:18, July 26

Prince Harry has shared his fears about Meghan Markle returning to the UK.

The Duke of Sussex opened up about his concerns about his family's safety during a new interview for the ITV documentary Tabloids on Trial, which premiered on July 25.

"It's still dangerous, and it only takes one person reading it to act on it," Harry said. "And whether it's a knife or acid, whatever it is, and those are things that really worry me. That's one of the reasons I won't bring my wife to this country."

In 2022, Neil Basu, the former head of the Metropolitan Police's counter-terrorism squad, said the Duchess of Sussex had indeed been threatened while living in the UK. "People have been prosecuted for those threats," Basu said at the time. Prince Harry has previously said he “felt compelled” to step back from his royal role and leave the UK, citing concerns for his family’s safety. Shortly after the couple announced their decision to step back from royal duties, the Royal Family and Public Figures Executive Committee (RAVEC) removed their automatic right to police protection in the UK. Although the Duke of Sussex offered to cover the cost of protection, his offer was rejected, and High Court judge Peter Lane upheld the decision earlier this year. Prince Harry plans to appeal the decision.
