Germany gold dealer creates one of world’s most expensive Christmas trees, worth $5.5m

A German gold dealer may have created one of the world’s most expensive Christmas trees, crafting a specimen out of $5.5 million in gold bars, reports the New York Post.

“The gold Christmas tree impressively illustrates this timeless value of the precious metal,” Benjamin Summa, the man who created the gold tree, told NewsX. The nearly 10-foot-tall Tannenbaum is on display at the company’s Munich headquarters.

Created in collaboration with the Austrian State Mint, the tree is made up of 2,024 Vienna Philharmonic gold commemorative coins—one of the best-selling collectible coins in the world.

Instead of the traditional star on top, however, it’s topped with a massive 24-karat coin.

But gold-obsessed billionaires might want to keep their wallets in their pockets for now. Pro Aurum stressed that the pyramidal gold vein is not for sale.

Pro Aurum representatives said that the tree is simply meant to symbolize the “evergreenness” of gold.

Interestingly, this creation is not the most expensive tree in history. That honor went to an $11 million tree that was displayed at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi in 2010.
