Louis Vuitton shifts focus from red carpet to home comfort

20:30, October 1

This spring, some designers are redefining fashion, turning attention away from the red carpet and toward home comfort — including carpets, blankets, and cozy slippers. Among them is Louis Vuitton, where Nicolas Ghesquière explored “home-inspired” collections, creating looks meant to be worn at home, reports WWD.

“In praise of intimacy, start by dressing for yourself,” the designer told journalists. “It’s wonderful to get dressed at home… The mood I wanted to convey is the calm you feel in the comfort of your own space.”

The collection blends Ghesquière’s experimental style with cozy aesthetics: plush coats, robe-like silhouettes, fluffy sweaters, wide shorts, and simple drapery reminiscent of tunics.

Yet he didn’t shy away from bold touches: romper-style coats, scattered embellishments on a silk robe, and decorative elements evoking blurred garden scenes.

In contrast, the collection also featured casual pieces: cotton tops, silk wide-leg pants, and even socks with sandals in glittery brocade.

The show took place in the former summer apartments of Anne of Austria in the Louvre, recently restored. Ghesquière noted that the “home atmosphere” inspired the collection, imagining Louis Vuitton clients enjoying summer on a Feadship yacht or winter in a Megeve chalet.

The event highlighted how luxury brands increasingly turn shows into immersive experiences for VIP guests. Attendees strolled through the Louvre after hours, seeing the famous Nike of Samothrace without crowds. The interiors featured 18th-century antique cabinets, Art Deco chairs by Michel Dufet, and ceramics by Pierre-Adrien Dalpayrat.

The soundtrack, composed specifically for the show by Tanguy Destable, included recited lyrics from Talking Heads’ “This Must Be the Place” by Cate Blanchett, capturing the universal desire for a sense of home: “Home is where I want to be, but I guess I’m already there.”

Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection demonstrates that fashion can be not only visually striking but also comfortably wearable, inviting guests to reflect on the beauty and coziness of their own spaces.
