The magic of Christmas was reportedly threatened at Greenbrae Primary School in Aberdeen when a teacher allegedly told students that Santa Claus doesn’t exist, reports Daily Mail.
The incident occurred during a lesson about All Saints’ Day, when children asked questions about saints — including Saint Nicholas, the figure everyone knows as Santa Claus.
Parents were shocked. “It’s not nice, the kids were upset. The school ruined the magic of Christmas,” one mother said. Others insisted the teacher should “receive a reprimand” for the comment.
The Aberdeen City Council has since intervened. “We value the magic and joy of the holiday season and appreciate parents raising their concerns. We are conducting an internal review and sharing the findings with staff to help guide sensitive discussions appropriately,” the council stated.
Some parents acknowledged that keeping the “harsh truth” about Santa Claus a secret is becoming increasingly difficult. “I’ve already talked to my children. I think this should remain a parental decision,” one said.
Experts note that, for many children, Christmas isn’t just a holiday — it’s a magical experience that creates long-lasting, cherished memories. For parents, even a small “leak” about Santa can feel like a real tragedy.
