Udaipur has just hosted one of the most extravagant weddings of the year – a three-day celebration for Netra Mantena, heiress to a pharmaceutical empire, and New York tech entrepreneur Vamsi Gadiraju. The scale of the festivities astonished even Bollywood, a world long accustomed to opulence.

Ceremonies unfolded across the city’s most iconic venues – from the Taj Lake Palace, known to James Bond fans from Octopussy, to Jagmandir, the island palace rising from the waters of Lake Pichola.
Jennifer Lopez performed at the sangeet, one of the key pre-wedding events. It marked the singer’s first-ever visit to India, and she delivered a full-scale show: Get Right, Ain’t Your Mama, Waiting for Tonight, multiple costume changes, and a crowd of guests capturing every moment on their phones.

During one number, the 56-year-old nearly spilled out of her ultra-revealing bodysuit but continued performing without missing a beat. Later, she posed with the newlyweds in an embroidered Manish Malhotra sari. Jennifer Lopez was paid $2 million dollars to hit the stage at a billionaire's star-studded wedding
Perhaps the most striking visual of the wedding was a towering white cake nearly 15 feet tall, created by French pastry chef Bastien Blanc-Tailleur. Designed like a miniature palace with sculpted elephants, tigers, and intricate sugarwork, it immediately went viral, with some users comparing it to Game of Thrones set pieces.

The guest list included the crème de la crème of India and beyond: Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Karan Johar, Kriti Sanon, Jacqueline Fernandez. Western guests included Donald Trump Jr. and his partner, Bettina Anderson, who were described by insiders as “inseparable” and looking more in love than ever. Before the festivities, Trump Jr. was spotted at the Taj Mahal with family.

At the mehendi, Madhuri Dixit performed alongside artists from Cirque du Soleil, who delivered a number set to “Jai Ho.” According to NDTV, the multi-tiered wedding is estimated to have cost between 6.4 and 6.8 million dollars, covering palace rentals, guest accommodations, designers, performers, and event producers.

Social media reactions were mixed, with some users calling the extravagance “a waste of money.” Still, the celebration is already being compared to the legendary 2024 Ambani wedding, which featured performances by Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Justin Bieber.
