Indian billionaire to showcase rare Rolls-Royces at UAE classic car rally

21:35, November 28

Indian industrialist Yohan Poonawalla, often dubbed the “Rolls-Royce Man,” is set to bring part of his impressive Phantom collection to the UAE, including a nearly century-old car that once belonged to the Maharaja of Kashmir.

Poonawalla owns 22 Rolls-Royces, combining both modern and vintage luxury and sports models. “I am bringing seven Phantom models to the UAE as this year marks the centenary of the Phantom,” the billionaire told Khaleej Times ahead of the 1000 Miglia Experience UAE 2025 rally, taking place from November 30 to December 4.

“Representing India at this prestigious event for the fourth time is an emotional moment. These Phantoms are not just vehicles; they are living pieces of history and art. I am proud to see these masterpieces displayed alongside the world’s finest classic cars,” Poonawalla added.

The Poonawalla family is estimated to have a net worth of around $27 billion (Dh99 billion).

According to Khaleej Times, the rally will feature roughly 120 collector cars, including the world’s most expensive car — a Mercedes 300 SLR valued at $140 million, flown in from the Mercedes-Benz Museum in Germany.

Among Poonawalla’s exhibits are legendary Rolls-Royces from different eras:

•  1928 Rolls-Royce 17 EX Phantom I — formerly owned by the Maharaja of Kashmir

•  1933 Rolls-Royce Phantom II — once owned by Sir Captain Malcolm Campbell

•  1937 Rolls-Royce Phantom III — previously owned by the Maharaja of Panchkote

•  1962 Rolls-Royce Phantom V — ex-ruler of Qatar

•  1979 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI — Queen Elizabeth II

•  2005 Rolls-Royce Phantom VII First Phantom — set to return to India after its relaunch

•  2024 Rolls-Royce Phantom VIII — featuring a luxury “privacy suite”

All seven vehicles will be part of the Phantom Centenary Exhibition, celebrating 100 years of the Rolls-Royce Phantom (1925–2025). The Phantom VI and VII will participate in the rally itself, traversing scenic UAE routes alongside legendary cars, including Stirling Moss’ 300 SLR, winner of the Mille Miglia.
