Bride in $1,300 Birkenstocks sparks internet debate

13:15, February 10

A new trend in wedding fashion has the internet divided: luxury Birkenstocks for brides. The high-end collection is a collaboration between the iconic footwear brand and wedding dress designer Danielle Frankel, reports The Post.

For those unwilling to choose between style and comfort, the entry-level pairs start at $1,300, while exclusive custom designs can cost up to $3,500. Grooms aren’t left out either — black Birkenstocks are available for $1,200.

The launch caused a frenzy on social media. Some users were quick to reject the idea: “No, I don’t want to see the groom’s toes at the wedding,” wrote one. Another asked, “Am I the only one not impressed by these sandals?”

Others embraced the concept enthusiastically. Sydney-based wedding stylist Alarna Hope noted that many couples today are opting for less traditional footwear, especially for micro-weddings and outdoor ceremonies. However, she doubts that bridal Birkenstocks will become a lasting trend. “Yes, they look stunning on the runway, but in real life it doesn’t always work. The best setting for these sandals is a beach wedding. They’re originally designed for walking outdoors, on sand,” she said.

Hope also highlighted the collection’s steep price tag. “You can find comfortable, beautiful wedding shoes for far less — ones you can wear all day and dance the night away.”
