The fantasy series Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has been showered with praise following the release of its first season finale, which viewers are calling a masterpiece. Many fans have already hailed it as the best show of the year.
Set a century before the events of Game of Thrones, the six-episode season follows the adventures of wandering knight Ser Duncan the Tall (“Dunk,” played by Peter Cloughy) and his young squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell).
In the emotional season finale, titled “Tomorrow,” Dunk turns down Prince Maekar Targaryen’s offer to stay at Summerhall and train Egg, setting off on a journey of his own—while Egg secretly follows him.
Fan Reactions
Social media platforms, including X, were flooded with reactions:
“The last episode of Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is a masterpiece. I haven’t felt this way since the finale of Better Call Saul,” wrote one fan.
“This was the best first season I’ve ever seen. Absolutely 10/10,” added another.
“The finale made me tear up… so beautiful,” commented a third.
Hints at Future Storylines
In a Decider YouTube interview, Peter Cloughy and Dexter Sol Ansell teased major spoilers for upcoming seasons, centered on the tragic Summerhall event in Targaryen history. Dexter mentioned Egg’s attempts to “raise dragons” and a catastrophic fire, though Peter cautioned: “We don’t know if it will happen exactly that way. Let’s finish the first season first.”
Fans responded instantly online:
“This is the biggest spoiler in the franchise in years!”
“Dexter just casually spoiling future seasons…”
The Summerhall fire is a pivotal moment in Targaryen lore, claiming the lives of King Aegon V, Prince Duncan, and Ser Duncan the Tall, leaving the family on the brink of extinction.
With a finale that tugged at fans’ hearts and hints of the upcoming Summerhall tragedy, the series promises even more drama, intrigue, and high-stakes storytelling in the seasons ahead.
