World-famous perfumer and founder of the Maison Francis Kurkdjian fragrance house, Francis Kurkdjian, recently visited Yerevan to take part in a charity gala dinner organized by EliseCare under the theme “Light & Hope,” dedicated to supporting Armenian children. The Armenian-born perfumer served as the event’s ambassador.

In his conversation with NEWS.am STYLE, Kurkdjian spoke about the importance of the charitable initiative, his impressions from the visit, how Yerevan has changed since his last trip a decade ago, and even how the city smells today.

He shared that he was very pleased to be in Yerevan, attending the gala at the Marriott Hotel and supporting EliseCare’s mission. The goal, he explained, is to raise funds to provide healthcare resources to smaller towns outside the capital.

While Yerevan itself has access to necessary services, he noted that just an hour outside the city, there is a clear need for better medical support for children, young people, and adults. He emphasized how meaningful it is to contribute to this effort and said he was honored to take part.

Kurkdjian last visited Armenia ten years ago. This time, he observed with satisfaction that Yerevan has undergone positive changes. During this visit, he spent more time outside the capital as well, including a trip to Gyumri, where he met children and doctors firsthand to better understand the needs of communities in smaller towns and villages.

Reflecting on what he witnessed, he described seeing a strong willingness among people to help, a great deal of energy, and a determination to create change and make Armenia an even more beautiful country. He added that he was deeply impressed by how much Yerevan has evolved over the past decade and found the transformation inspiring, noting that he certainly plans to return.

After Yerevan, the renowned perfumer traveled to Paris and then to the United States, but he intends to return again as part of the French delegation accompanying President Emmanuel Macron on his visit to Armenia.

He mentioned that his current stay would last only a couple more days and be quite brief, but reassured that he would definitely come back.

When asked what Yerevan smells like to a fragrance expert, he said it’s a difficult question but noted that, at the moment, he often notices the scent of lilac throughout the city. With lilac trees in bloom, he explained, their fragrance seems to follow you wherever you walk.
