Gen Z men are saying that pornography has “warped their lives,” shaped their perception of women, and damaged their ability to build healthy relationships, according to an investigative report by The Post.

Six heterosexual men in their 20s admitted that their consumption of pornography gradually became a daily habit, which they now describe as an addiction.

One participant said he began watching porn in middle school and quickly escalated to regular use. “I’d come home after school, watch porn, and fall asleep. By the time I was 18, it was two or three times a day,” he said.

Another 26-year-old man from Washington said he first encountered pornography in sixth grade, and it changed how he viewed people around him. “I started looking at my school crushes differently, thinking more about their bodies than their personality,” he said.

He added that early exposure shaped his sexual expectations and behavior: “Porn kind of told me what to like instead of me figuring it out myself. Everything quickly becomes extreme.”

According to him, when he became sexually active in college, it created confusion between reality and what he had seen online. “It caused misunderstanding about what women actually want. I thought they didn’t want tenderness, only rough, dominant behavior.”

The report notes that Gen Z is the first generation to grow up with smartphones and constant internet access. One survey cited in the article suggests the average age of first exposure to pornography is now around 12.

A participant from Florida compared today’s situation to the past: “In the ’70s and ’80s, you had to actively look for it. Now it’s in your pocket.”

Some respondents believe pornography has had a destructive impact on their generation. The Washington interviewee said sexuality has become transactional rather than emotional: “It feels more like a quick fix, like a drug or nicotine.”

Another participant — a 28-year-old father of two who later developed an app to help people quit porn — said he struggled with compulsive use despite being successful in other areas of life. He described it as an internal conflict: “In every other part of my life I was high-achieving, but in this area it felt completely out of control.”

He added that social media made the problem worse by constantly pushing sexualized content: “No matter where I looked, there was always more and more of it.”

He eventually created the app Relay, which helps users overcome addiction through anonymous communities and peer support. According to him, the platform has helped tens of thousands of people.

Other participants said porn created unrealistic expectations about women’s appearance and relationships. One admitted: “The standards become unattainable. It doesn’t translate to real life.”

Some also said it interfered with their ability to form relationships. A 21-year-old warehouse worker from Seattle said he has never been in a relationship and believes porn is the reason: “It reduces the motivation to go out and find real intimacy. You start avoiding dating.”

Another participant from the Netherlands, 27, said he reduced his consumption with the help of a support app and noticed improvements in his emotional state and relationship with his fiancée.

The report also notes that many young men seek help due to feelings of shame — especially those raised in religious environments or under moral pressure.

Developers of addiction-recovery platforms say most users are men aged 18–25 who either experience moral conflict or fear the habit will damage future relationships.

The article concludes that pornography among young men has become a widespread and often hidden issue, with many feeling they have lost control over both their behavior and its consequences.
