The new luxury train La Dolce Vita Orient Express, launched in Italy in spring 2025, will for the first time leave the country this autumn and travel internationally to Istanbul, according to Robb Report.
The journey is inspired by the legendary Orient Express and follows a route that has been one of the most iconic rail journeys in the world for more than 140 years.
The original Orient Express first departed in 1883, connecting Paris and Istanbul (then Constantinople). Decades later, its modern successor, the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express, still runs this route twice a year.
La Dolce Vita has chosen its own interpretation of the classic path — from Rome through Venice, Budapest, the Carpathian Mountains, and onward to Istanbul.
The trip begins in the elegant lounge at Roma Ostiense station in Rome, where guests will be welcomed with aperitifs, light bites, and live music before boarding the train.
Passengers will then spend five days aboard interiors inspired by 1960s Italian design, combined with modern luxury amenities.
The train carries only 62 passengers, reinforcing its exclusive and intimate atmosphere.
The train consists of 12 carriages, including:
The interiors were designed by Milan-based studio Dimorestudio, combining bold colours, fine materials, and retro-inspired aesthetics.
Dining is overseen by three-Michelin-star chef Heinz Beck. Menus are tailored to each stage of the route and feature locally sourced ingredients from the countries the train passes through.
A bar car also offers signature cocktails, wines, and live entertainment.
During the trip, passengers can enjoy changing landscapes from their cabins and take part in curated excursions in cities along the route, including Venice, Budapest, and Brașov.
Organisers promise exclusive cultural experiences and privileged access to unique locations along the way.
The price for a one-way ticket from Rome to Istanbul starts at €20,000 per passenger.
