Savage identified as pansexual and worked with male, female, and transgender performers throughout his career. Widely known for his "muscle daddy" persona, he entered the adult industry relatively late in life at the age of 50, leaving behind a career as a firefighter, the Daily Mail reports.

At the time of his death, Savage resided in Colorado, where he spent most of his time hiking and enjoying the outdoors.

Savage is the latest performer added to a tragic and growing list of male adult film actors who have lost their lives over the past year:

• In December, gay porn star Lane Rogers, better known by his stage name Blake Mitchell, was killed in a motorcycle accident at the age of 31.

• In March, 28-year-old actor Seth Peterson died suddenly at his home in Los Angeles. While the official cause of death was not disclosed, TMZ reported that his mother feared it may have been a drug overdose.

• In May, 62-year-old Glenn Soukesian, who performed under the pseudonym Colton Ford, was found dead. According to the Bay Area Reporter, his body was discovered near a hiking trail in Palm Springs. An autopsy later determined the cause of death to be an accidental MDMA (ecstasy) overdose.

• Last year, Tim Krueger (real name Marcel Bonnem), widely considered the biggest star in the male porn industry, died at the age of 44 following a "freak accident" at his home.
