The Belgium men's national team decimated the Americans in the Round of 16 match. The encounter ended in a crushing 4-1 victory for Belgium. Star forward Romelu Lukaku struck the fourth and final blow in stoppage time.

Political Subtext on the Pitch

President Donald Trump has become one of the main talking points surrounding this World Cup. It was his active intervention that played a key role in overturning the red card given to USMNT forward Folarin Balogun in the Round of 32. Thanks to this, Balogun was able to take the pitch against Belgium this Monday.

Ultimately, however, that decision had no bearing on the outcome of the match — Balogun failed to deliver any meaningful impact against the Belgians. On the other hand, the Belgium national team (who were reportedly furious over Trump's meddling) brutally trolled the entire United States with their celebratory dance.

"I Didn't Tell Him What to Do"

When Trump was asked about his conversation with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, the president replied: "I didn't tell him what to do. I can't dictate to him, but — and I don't think it was his decision to make personally. I believe a committee made the decision, and they did the right thing. First of all, there was no foul, and second of all, everyone wants to watch a game featuring the best players."

It will be incredibly difficult for the US national team to recover from this blow — both from the devastating defeat itself and from the mocking "Trump dance" executed by the Belgians.
