Nicolas Cage’s $10.5 Million Luxury Malibu Mansion Nearly Swallowed by Giant Sinkhole

12:17, September 9

Nicolas Cage’s Malibu mansion — a lavish $10.5 million coastal residence — is literally sinking into the ground.

Footage from the scene shows a deep sinkhole where the driveway leading to the sprawling modern home once stood. The asphalt and concrete outside the closed garage cracked and collapsed, taking various objects with them, including a portable construction toilet and sections of a fence. Huge chunks of concrete can also be seen at the bottom of the hole.

In the background, the stunning ocean and beach views remain visible, while the perimeter of the dangerous area has been cordoned off with bright orange traffic cones.

The 62-year-old actor purchased the approximately 4,000-square-foot (370-square-meter) property in 2024. According to Realtor.com, the home boasts spectacular ocean views and a private rooftop terrace.

KTLA reports that firefighters came across the frightening scene early Tuesday morning after responding to a call about possible damage to a major gas line.

According to the local outlet, an emergency services official said the giant sinkhole, which was apparently caused by “coastal erosion,” measures approximately 30 by 30 feet (9 by 9 meters).

Despite the alarming scale of the damage, no evacuation orders have been issued and no injuries have been reported.

It appears that nobody was home when the ground gave way. “What’s more, it appears that some kind of renovation work is currently underway at the mansion,” KTLA reporter Rich Decker noted during the report.

The incident comes after heavy rain lashed the Los Angeles area on Sunday, while the Southern California coast was hit by rough seas amid the formation of Hurricane Marie.
