Fans of the cult hit series Outlander have sparked a massive global auction frenzy. The large-scale "Outlander: The Auction," organized by the Bonhams auction house following the conclusion of the final eighth season in May, raked in a staggering £729,395.
A total of 385 lots went under the hammer, spanning 12 years of filming, eight seasons, and the meticulous craftsmanship of prop masters and costume designers. Devoted fans from around the world fought for the right to own iconic items belonging to their favorite characters, driving final prices up to several times higher than their initial estimates.
The most expensive lots of the auction included:
Claire’s wedding rings — a set of three rings sold for a record-breaking £28,160.
Claire’s red ballgown (Season 2) — a prototype sketch of the dress sold for £12,160 (against an initial estimate of £3,000–£5,000).
Claire’s wedding outfit (worn by actress Caitríona Balfe) — the wedding dress cost a buyer £11,520 (three times higher than expected).
Tartan corset dress (Claire, Season 1) — sold for £10,880.
Jamie Fraser's kilt (worn by actor Sam Heughan) — featured in the dramatic scenes of the Battle of Culloden, it sold for £8,960 (exceeding its estimate by more than four times).
Among other notable lots acquired by fans were the iconic "dragonfly in amber" amulet (£7,040), Claire’s original white dress (£7,040), a model of the mythical stone circle Craigh na Dun (£2,560), and a painting depicting Jamie’s ancestral home, Lallybroch Castle (£5,376).
The historical fantasy drama, based on the bestselling books by American author Diana Gabaldon, aired starting in 2015 and won a dedicated legion of fans worldwide. The series not only popularized Scottish landscapes, triggering a massive influx of tourists (the "Outlander effect"), but also set the highest standard for the visual embodiment of the era.
