79-year-old British billionaire and long-time host of The Apprentice Alan Sugar found himself at the center of a scandal after American Express denied his request to increase his credit limit. The businessman, with a net worth of 1.1 billion pounds sterling, lost his temper and publicly called the bank's employees a "bunch of idiots."

The incident occurred on Monday. According to Sugar, he spent a full hour talking to four different customer service operators trying to raise his card's limit.

"Finally, I spoke to a guy in the UK, in Brighton, who knew who I was and what my financial status was. However, I was turned down because of their system," the billionaire fumed on social media.

The enraged businessman did not mince words, lashing out not only at the bank but also at followers who accused him of hypocrisy and trying to "flex his status" in front of ordinary people who face credit denials on a daily basis.

In response to a caustic comment from one user: "If you have 1.1 billion, why do you even need a credit card?", Sugar flared up and replied in all caps: "I'M NOT WHINNING, I'M JUST SHOWING WHAT A BUNCH OF IDIOTS AMEX ARE. I don't walk around with bags of cash. I need a credit card to buy things."

Social Media Effect: The Bank Takes Pity on the Billionaire

However, the public tirade bore fruit. Just a few hours later, the British tycoon triumphantly informed his followers that the bank had reversed its decision: "Good news: Amex have just increased my credit limit. So anyone thinking of going through my dustbins looking for my Amex aluminium card... forget it, you will only find potato peelings."

This curious episode once again reminded the public of the volatile temper of the billionaire, who grew up in the poor area of the East End, built a multi-million-pound Amstrad empire himself, and still prefers to personally control his finances—even when it comes to plastic cards.
