Newly discovered documents and archival footage have once again stirred public interest in the long-standing affair between US President John F. Kennedy and movie legend Marilyn Monroe. According to materials from a new investigation, the actress was expecting a child with the politician during his 1960 presidential campaign, after which she faced pressure from the White House and may have subsequently become the victim of a political assassination, Radar Online reports.

As sources citing declassified FBI files and photographs from that period claim, the romance between Kennedy and Monroe began in 1960.

In photos taken on July 8, 1960, in New York City during screen and makeup tests for The Misfits, attentive observers spotted a rounded belly on the actress, who was always known for her tiny waist.

According to insiders, at that time Monroe was married to playwright Arthur Miller, but was simultaneously having affairs with Kennedy and French actor Yves Montand. Her husband believed Montand was the father of the child, but the actress herself knew the baby belonged to the future-president.

Upon learning of the pregnancy during the Democratic National Convention in August 1960, John F. Kennedy—fearing that the scandal would ruin his chances of defeating Richard Nixon—demanded an abortion. In official reports of the time, Marilyn's 10-day hospitalization was presented as "exhaustion," but sources claim the actress terminated the pregnancy at that time.

Jackie Kennedy's jealousy and the actress's threats

The situation escalated in May 1962, when Marilyn performed the famous Happy Birthday, Mr. President song in a skin-tight gown at Kennedy's birthday celebration at Madison Square Garden.

According to sources, First Lady Jackie Kennedy found out about the affair and gave her husband an ultimatum: either he cuts all ties with the actress, or face a loud and humiliating divorce. Later, the president's brother, Robert F. Kennedy, was sent to Monroe to make her finally keep quiet.

The murder theory

Feeling betrayed by both Kennedy brothers, Monroe allegedly began threatening public exposure—including the story of her terminated pregnancy and her secret romances.

The new investigation materials also feature a scandalous theory by well-known author James Patterson (from his book The Last Days of Marilyn Monroe): on the day of the actress's death in August 1962, Robert F. Kennedy was allegedly present at her Brentwood home. According to this version, he was trying to find the star's personal diary containing explosive political secrets, and during the confrontation, her mouth may have been forcibly smothered with a pillow.
