Fans of the iconic franchise can rejoice: Johnny Depp is close to returning to his most famous role. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has confirmed that the actor is in talks to take part in the sixth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Speaking at a D23 event, Bruckheimer told Deadline: "We are in talks with Johnny, we are working on a script, and hopefully, we can make it happen."

According to insiders, the new film in the franchise will focus on a character played by actress Margot Robbie, while Johnny Depp will return as the iconic Captain Jack Sparrow in a supporting role.

As a reminder, Depp has consistently played Jack Sparrow across all five films in the series, starting with Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl in 2003 and concluding with Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in 2017. Combined, the franchise's worldwide box office gross has exceeded $4.5 billion.
