Armenian Video in Global Cultural Trend Takes Social Media by Storm and Draws Attention From International Media

19:57, August 26

The video BORN FROM CULTURE | ARMENIA, created as part of an international visual trend by director and cinematographer Avo Harutyunyan and the Black Flight team, surpassed one million views just one week after its release.

The video has been actively picked up by international pages and media outlets covering photography, design, film and visual culture, while posts featuring the Armenian version have accumulated hundreds of thousands of additional views.

Notably, the Armenian video has appeared in virtually every major post documenting the development of the Born From Culture trend. As international creators explore how a single visual format has spread across different cultures, Armenia is already among the examples they are showcasing to their audiences.

One of the most notable responses came from French SPOT, a media outlet dedicated to photography and visual culture. Its editors called BORN FROM CULTURE | ARMENIA the “visual and creative wonder of the week” and specifically highlighted the work of Avo Harutyunyan, Sardaryan Dance Studio and the costumes by ARMAT.

The French publication drew attention to the film’s dramatic natural locations, monasteries, traditional costumes, choreography and the unexpected combination of all these elements with Future’s Mask Off, calling the musical choice particularly striking.

“The natural scenery here is monumental — from monasteries high in the mountains,” the authors wrote, while separately praising the dancers’ “grace, speed and flawless precision of movement.”

SPOT also identified another cultural layer in the Armenian video, connecting some of its compositions with the visual aesthetics of Sergei Parajanov’s The Color of Pomegranates. The authors noted similarities in the composition of certain shots, where people, costumes, architecture and objects become almost painterly arrangements, suggesting that this familiar visual sensation may not be accidental.

The video has also appeared on international creative pages such as We Got No Taste, which regularly showcase work by photographers, directors, designers and creative studios from around the world. The Armenian version found itself alongside visual projects that audiences typically judge primarily by image quality, direction and artistic concept rather than by their country of origin.

The video also attracted attention from the Politics in the Wild page, where the post received around 60,000 likes. The Armenian version was included in a selection of five countries participating in the trend, appearing alongside other national interpretations of Born From Culture.

The creators recalled that the format began with a video showcasing Georgian dance culture set to Mask Off, after which other countries — particularly across Eurasia — began adopting the concept. They also wondered why the music seemed to fit the region’s traditional dance cultures so naturally, noting that the combination of a contemporary track and traditional movement works with remarkable precision.

Other regional media outlets have also covered the Armenian version of Born From Culture. In Kazakhstan, the trend was featured by Kursiv Media, Perviy Kanal Eurasia, Taspa News and Tumar FM, with the Armenian video already appearing in stories about how the trend has spread across different countries and cultures.

Perhaps the most encouraging sign of the video’s success is the reaction from people discovering Armenia through it for the first time. In comments under international posts, users have praised the video’s striking visuals, described Armenia as beautiful and distinctive, asked about the locations shown on screen and expressed a desire to visit the country.
