Former U.S. Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer maintained an inappropriately close relationship with her bodyguard and, during a trip to a strip club in Oregon, instructed a security officer to throw money at a “partially nude dancer.” The details are contained in a report by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Inspector General, according to the New York Post.

Chavez-DeRemer resigned in April — three months after the New York Post first reported that the inspector general was investigating her relationship with security officer Brian Sloan and possible abuses of her position.

According to the investigation, Chavez-DeRemer “maintained an inappropriately close and unprofessional relationship” with Sloan while he had operational and administrative authority over her security detail. Investigators concluded that this was inconsistent with federal requirements concerning impartiality and the prohibition against granting preferential treatment.

At the same time, investigators emphasized that they found insufficient evidence to establish that Chavez-DeRemer and Sloan had a romantic or sexual relationship.

Money for the Dancer — at the Secretary’s Direction

The report devotes particular attention to Chavez-DeRemer’s visit to a strip club in Oregon in April 2025. She attended the off-the-record outing with several subordinates, including her bodyguard.

During the visit, Chavez-DeRemer took cash from her purse, handed it to a security officer who was serving as her driver, and instructed him to give the money to the dancer who was performing.

The officer initially refused to carry out the request and sought advice from Sloan. According to the report, Sloan instructed him to comply with Chavez-DeRemer’s order.

Chavez-DeRemer then took out additional bills and asked the officer to throw them one at a time onto the partially nude woman. The officer again sought guidance from Sloan and ultimately carried out the order against his own wishes.

Nights in Neighboring Rooms

The investigation also examined two trips Chavez-DeRemer and Sloan took to Las Vegas. The inspector general obtained electronic records from the hotel room locks that, in his assessment, indicated that during the trips they spent at least part of the night in each other’s rooms.

In addition, one witness said that during a trip to Michigan, he saw Chavez-DeRemer massaging Sloan’s shoulders while sitting behind him in a vehicle. The witness also heard a remark from the bodyguard that he interpreted as a sexual innuendo.

When Chavez-DeRemer asked Sloan whether he was tired, he reportedly replied that he was “tough as a rock,” prompting both of them to laugh.

Several witnesses also said Chavez-DeRemer excluded certain employees from her security detail because she considered them “too old,” physically unfit, overly strict about the rules or “too MAGA” — supporters of Donald Trump’s political movement. Investigators said this created additional challenges in ensuring the secretary’s security.

In August, Chavez-DeRemer joined the board of directors of Log Cabin Republicans, an organization that advocates for the interests of conservative gay, lesbian and bisexual Americans.
