George Clooney has definitively ruled out the possibility of running for president himself — but has unexpectedly named three Democrats he believes could be strong contenders to lead the party back to the White House in 2028, according to the Daily Mail.

The 65-year-old actor, one of the Democratic Party’s most influential donors and fundraisers, discussed the future of presidential politics on Friday at The Future of Creativity event in Venice.

The first potential contender Clooney singled out was 39-year-old Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff.

“I think we’re all very excited about this young senator from Georgia — Jon Ossoff,” Clooney said.

The actor also highlighted Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear as politicians to watch.

Clooney stressed, however, that he is not yet prepared to officially endorse any of them and plans to wait until the November midterm elections before making any decisions.

As for his own political ambitions, Clooney categorically dismissed the idea of running for office.

“Absolutely not,” the actor said when asked about a possible political career.

According to Clooney, age is one of the main reasons he has no interest in entering the presidential race.

“I’m 65, and I think we need young voices — people who are bringing new ideas and new thoughts,” he said.

Ossoff, whom Clooney singled out as a favorite, was first elected to the Senate in 2021. At 39, he is the youngest U.S. senator since 1980, the first senator born in the 1980s and the first Millennial to serve in the Senate.

Clooney Is Back in the Middle of a Major Political Game

Clooney’s comments inevitably brought renewed attention to his high-profile clash with Joe Biden during the summer of 2024.

That July, Clooney published an op-ed in The New York Times calling on the then-81-year-old Biden to withdraw from the presidential race. The actor’s concerns centered primarily on Biden’s age and his ability to effectively continue the campaign.

Clooney later recalled a fundraising event he had organized with Biden, writing that he saw a president who was no longer the politician he had known before.

Just 11 days after Clooney’s op-ed was published, Biden dropped out of the presidential race.

Clooney continues to stand by his position.

“I’ll happily support anybody — but not people my age or older. I think we need more young people,” he said.

The actor clearly does not see himself as a mere bystander in American politics. He said he has been involved in political fundraising since 1988 and described himself as the “biggest fundraiser in the history of the Democratic Party.”
