US President Donald Trump gave three young White House staffers $45,000 each in cash. The sensational details were revealed in the president’s financial disclosures.

The recipients were 35-year-old Natalie Harp, 31-year-old Margo Martin and 26-year-old Chamberlain Harris. The payments were described in documents obtained by The Washington Post as “holiday cash gifts.”

The $45,000 sum amounts to nearly a third of each woman’s annual salary, which stands at $150,000.

Natalie Harp was appointed Trump’s executive assistant on his very first day in office.

Martin joined Trump’s team in 2019, initially working in press operations. Later, after Trump left the White House, she became his press secretary. Martin now serves as the president’s communications adviser.

Harris also worked with Trump during his first term in office, when she was known as the “receptionist of the United States.” She is now one of his executive assistants.

However, the women were not the only Trump aides to receive substantial gifts. According to the documents, Walt Nauta, the director of Oval Office operations, received $20,000 from the president. His annual salary is $175,000.

Ethics experts, however, believe that such gifts could potentially be illegal.

Richard Painter, a former White House ethics lawyer who served under George W. Bush, pointed to a federal law prohibiting government employees from receiving additional compensation from sources outside the government.

“He is clearly trying to make their financial situation more comfortable so they can work in public service at the White House. You can’t do that,” Painter told The Washington Post.

At the same time, Don Fox, who served as acting director of the Office of Government Ethics during the Barack Obama administration, said it was not yet clear whether any law had been broken.

Nevertheless, he said, receiving such a gift from one’s boss would be extremely uncomfortable.

“I would feel somewhere between someone who was genuinely very uncomfortable and someone who now felt indebted to the person who had given them such an enormous gift,” Fox explained.

As The Washington Post notes, Trump’s payments to his subordinates appear to be unprecedented. Experts were unable to point to other cases in which federal employees had received such substantial sums from their boss.

Particular attention has once again focused on Natalie Harp, who has long been considered one of Trump’s closest aides.

She has even been dubbed Trump’s “human printer.” Harp shows the president articles that interest him, searches the internet for information he wants and helps publish posts on Truth Social.

Her unusually close relationship with the president has previously attracted scrutiny after The Daily Beast published two highly personal letters Harp wrote to Trump in 2023, during or after a trip they took together to Scotland and Ireland.

“You are the only person who matters to me. I never want to let you down,” Harp wrote in one of the messages.

Harp referred to Trump as her “Keeper and Protector in this life,” while mentioning a mysterious “Cash Register” in the same sentence.

Against this backdrop, the $45,000 payments have once again drawn attention to the unusually close relationships between the president and his young female aides.
