Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of sexually assaulting Miriam “Mimi” Haley, a former assistant on Project Runway, in 2006.

The 74-year-old Weinstein appeared in a Manhattan courtroom in a wheelchair as the sentence was handed down.

Prosecutors had sought a 20-year prison sentence for Weinstein, while his attorneys had asked the court to limit the sentence to nine years.

After serving his prison term, Weinstein will spend an additional five years under supervision and will be required to register as a sex offender.

In court, Weinstein said: “I am not a perfect person. I am a person who has made mistakes. I truly regret what happened with Miriam Haley, but I must once again state that I am innocent.”

Haley, 49, attended the hearing with her attorney, Gloria Allred, and read a victim impact statement in court. She said Weinstein “abused his position and power” and that what happened had a “devastating impact” on her life and her sense of safety.

Haley accused Weinstein of sexually assaulting her at his loft in Manhattan’s SoHo neighborhood in 2006.

At his first trial, held in Manhattan Supreme Court in 2020, the former head of Miramax was found guilty and sentenced to 23 years in prison.

However, in 2024, New York’s highest court overturned that conviction in a 4-3 decision. The court ruled that testimony about other alleged incidents of misconduct should not have been admitted because it was not necessary to establish the defendant’s intent and could have created the impression that he had a propensity to commit similar crimes.

Following a retrial and the appointment of a different judge, Weinstein was again found guilty in June 2025 of sexually assaulting Haley in Manhattan criminal court.

During the retrial, Haley testified and tearfully described what she said happened in 2006.

She said a driver picked her up from her apartment when she was 29 and took her to Weinstein’s residence. She testified that almost immediately after she arrived, the producer “lunged” at her and tried to kiss her while they were sitting on a couch.

“I rejected him, but he kept insisting and tried to kiss me,” Haley told the court.

“I tried to push him away. I tried to make him stop kissing and grabbing me,” she said, alleging that Weinstein then forcibly subjected her to sexual acts.

“I don’t remember much after that,” Haley said. “I decided to dissociate.”

Weinstein, who was married to designer Georgina Chapman in 2006, was convicted of sexually assaulting Haley following the retrial.

He is already incarcerated at Rikers Island, where he is serving a 23-year sentence stemming from a separate sexual assault case in California.

Weinstein has also faced health problems while in prison.

He has denied the criminal allegations against him throughout the proceedings, maintaining that he did not rape or sexually assault anyone.
