Social Media Star Dies on Her 107th Birthday

10:48, October 1

Maria Morales Tirado, a 107-year-old social media star known affectionately as Mami, died on September 28 — the day of her 107th birthday. Her death was announced by her son, Tony Morales, who shared a heartfelt tribute on social media.

“Today I am writing words that no child should ever have to write. Mami passed away on the very day she turned 107. The date we had spent our entire lives celebrating as the beginning of her life became, at the same time, the day we had to say goodbye,” Tony wrote on Facebook.

Maria Morales Tirado became a true internet sensation. Her Facebook page, Mami Is My Attitude 4 a Lifestyle, had more than 200,000 followers. Her son regularly shared glimpses of his mother’s everyday life in Yabucoa, Puerto Rico, with her devoted fans.

Despite her advanced age, Mami captured the hearts of thousands of social media users, who followed her life with genuine interest and affection.

“Although she was 107, although our hair was already gray and we had children and grandchildren of our own, we were still those same children who felt safe simply knowing that Mami was still there. We always wanted one more day, one more conversation, one more smile and one more hug — one that was never supposed to be the last,” her son wrote.

Tony also said that although his mother’s physical strength gradually declined in the final years of her life, she never stopped teaching those around her.

“She showed us that strength is not only found in great deeds. Sometimes strength is simply opening your eyes for one more day, recognizing someone’s voice, holding a hand or giving us a gentle smile,” he wrote.

Maria Morales Tirado leaves behind a large family. She had 14 children, 48 grandchildren, 71 great-grandchildren and 28 great-great-grandchildren.

According to Tony, his mother’s legacy will live on through the family traditions, habits, recipes and stories that her loved ones will pass down to future generations.
