Brooklyn Beckham has hit back at critics after his latest cooking video sparked an uproar on social media. The 27-year-old aspiring chef decided to tackle an Italian classic, spaghetti all’assassina, but his efforts failed to impress everyone. While some users called the dish disgusting, others went so far as to dub David and Victoria Beckham’s son the “spaghetti killer.”
The distinctive feature of this Italian dish lies in its unusual cooking method: rather than boiling the spaghetti in salted water beforehand, the pasta is placed directly into a frying pan. Tomato broth — usually tomato sauce diluted with water — is then gradually added, allowing the spaghetti to absorb the liquid much like risotto. The result is pasta with a characteristic crispy, slightly charred crust and a smoky, almost burnt flavor.
Brooklyn’s version, however, left some viewers with anything but an appetite. His video attracted a stream of comments criticizing both his cooking technique and the appearance of the finished dish.
“To put it in one word, it looks disgusting. It’s not even properly cooked,” one user wrote.
“Where is the REAL tomato sauce?” another asked.
“Basically, burnt pasta with sauce from a jar,” a third commenter concluded.
Another user compared Brooklyn’s cooking method to Meghan Markle’s culinary experiments, describing it as lazy. One more critic listed the ingredients they believed disqualified the process as proper cooking: tomato paste from a tube, ready-made sauce from a jar, and pre-minced garlic.
The most cutting insult came in the form of a nickname coined by social media users: the “spaghetti killer.” It quickly became one of the most prominent jabs aimed at the aspiring chef.
Brooklyn, however, refused to take the criticism lying down. In the comments, he posted a meme featuring Ross Geller from Friends making the so-called friendly middle finger — a joking, toned-down version of the obscene gesture.
Beckham later addressed his critics in his Instagram Stories, explaining that the charred pasta was not a cooking mistake but an essential part of the recipe.
“To everyone so kindly saying I’m constantly burning my food: this pasta is supposed to be burnt, so there you go,” he wrote, apparently fed up with the repetitive remarks.
Some followers came to his defense, pointing out that spaghetti all’assassina is indeed known for its crispy, charred crust and that the dry pasta is traditionally added directly to the pan.
Brooklyn’s culinary experiments regularly become a talking point online. Earlier this summer, he faced a wave of criticism after making a protein pizza featuring a hot sauce from his own Cloud 23 brand.
Another controversy erupted when Beckham prepared a pasta dish using seawater while enjoying a holiday aboard a luxury yacht.
