‘I Only Held a Dollar Bill for the First Time Five Years Ago’: Britney Spears Slams Her Parents Over Years of Conservatorship

13:29, October 12

Britney Spears has admitted that she still feels bitter about the 13-year conservatorship she endured for nearly her entire adult life. The singer revealed that despite working relentlessly for years, she was denied even the most basic freedoms and did not get to hold a one-dollar bill in her hands until just five years ago.

The 44-year-old singer posted a video on Instagram in which she poses in lingerie and tall black boots. In a lengthy caption accompanying the clip, she lashed out at her parents, Jamie and Lynne Spears, as well as those who called her “crazy.”

The singer said she felt victimised because the people around her suppressed her creativity and unconventional view of the world.

“I was a sweet, innocent girl who once became famous and believed everything she was told,” Spears wrote.

“He says the sky is yellow… so today it really is yellow… Hmmmm. When my name is in the spotlight and for whatever the hell reason, that’s when others start calling all the shots — just like my mom and dad did for 15 years. But it wasn’t about me dying and becoming an angel. I felt victimised because of my mind, my way of thinking, because of how broadly and unconventionally I used to think,” the singer shared.

“They say the craziest people usually turn out to be the best… I’ll admit, I wasn’t crazy — I was literally, for fuck’s sake, completely insane. But the irony is that there’s something crazy about constantly rushing around and then just sitting still, remembering how my heart used to beat,” she wrote.

The star also made no secret of her resentment over the years she says were taken from her.

She revealed that despite working seven days a week for 15 years, she was not even allowed to board a plane on her own to meet a friend.

“And it was only five years ago that I got to hold my first one-dollar bill in my hands… And people sit there and seriously claim that I’m the crazy one…” the singer fumed.

“At 40, I realised that men like black lingerie. No joke, I’m even embarrassed to admit it,” she wrote.

The singer said she had also bought a bra and lingerie set from La Perla, but at the time, she had yet to realise just how much a new pair of shoes could affect the way she felt about herself.

“This morning I woke up and told myself: stop questioning yourself. Let my own feet and spirit lead me,” Spears wrote.

In another post on Sunday, the singer shared a photograph of a bearded man and spoke about her unusual spiritual connection with Santa Claus.

“Santa Claus has become my best friend… I talk to him in heaven almost every day… He said I was right about needing to buy more clothes!” she captioned the picture.

In February 2008, Britney Spears was placed under a court-ordered conservatorship following a series of public crises, hospitalisations and intense media scrutiny. The conservatorship, which lasted nearly 14 years, ended in November 2021.
