Ray-Ban Heir Leonardo Del Vecchio Claims He Has Slept With More Than 2,000 Women

10:30, October 13

Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, heir to a multibillion-dollar fortune tied to Ray-Ban, has made a series of startling revelations in a candid interview. The 31-year-old billionaire opened up about his struggle with drug addiction, claimed he had slept with more than 2,000 women, and criticized the leadership of EssilorLuxottica, the company behind Ray-Ban and several other major eyewear brands.

Del Vecchio’s fortune is estimated at more than $5 billion. His revelations come amid a bitter family feud reminiscent of the hit TV series Succession, with a power struggle over control of EssilorLuxottica potentially shaping the future of one of the world’s largest eyewear manufacturers. In addition to Ray-Ban, the company owns Oakley and Persol, as well as the LensCrafters optical retail chain. Ray-Ban has also partnered with Meta to produce AI-powered smart glasses.

Leonardo Maria, known for his love of Ferraris and passion for DJing, discussed his drug use in a video podcast with Italian rapper Fedez. He said he had turned to drugs to cope with the emotional void left by his late father, after whom he was named.

“He gave us everything except love. I filled the emptiness I felt with drugs,” the heir admitted.

Del Vecchio said benzodiazepines, medications commonly prescribed for anxiety disorders and sleep problems, had become his primary drug of choice. He said he had managed to bring the situation largely under control, although he has yet to overcome his addiction completely.

“That darkness was gradually filled, partly with drugs. But my night ended when Bianca came along,” he said, referring to his daughter.

“I haven’t yet done everything I need to do to put an end to this once and for all, so I won’t claim I’m cured forever. But this time, I can genuinely see the light,” Del Vecchio added.

He also stressed that overcoming addiction requires addressing not only its consequences but also its underlying causes.

However, his revelations about addiction were not the only part of the interview to attract attention. Del Vecchio also offered some striking details about his sex life.

“I can say that I’ve probably made love to more than 2,000 women. And I managed to win over more than 90% of them by singing ‘Hero,’” he said, referring to Enrique Iglesias’s 2001 hit.

“The problem with ‘Hero’ is that if you sing it for the third time, your voice starts to give out. But it still works,” the heir joked.

Last summer, Del Vecchio stepped down as chief strategy officer of EssilorLuxottica and as president of Ray-Ban, saying he wanted to focus on new entrepreneurial ventures. The move came roughly four years after his father’s death.

Leonardo Maria is one of eight heirs to the vast fortune left by the company’s founder. For several years, he has been involved in a bitter struggle for control of the family business empire.

Recently, he failed to secure the backing of the family holding company, Delfin, for loans he needed to buy out two of his siblings. The proposed transaction was valued at €10 billion, or approximately $11.2 billion, according to Bloomberg.

In the interview, Del Vecchio sharply criticized EssilorLuxottica CEO Francesco Milleri, who had previously served as his mentor and was personally chosen by his father to lead the company. The heir argued that ineffective management was responsible for the group’s deteriorating performance.

The French-Italian group has suffered a significant downturn, with its shares falling approximately 46% since the beginning of 2026. According to Bloomberg, this is the worst performance among companies in the Euro Stoxx 50 index. EssilorLuxottica’s market capitalization stands at around €68.1 billion.

“After my father, the company lacked the right strategic vision. And that’s not just my opinion — the market itself is showing it,” Del Vecchio said.

He emphasized that his personal relationship with Milleri was separate from the business issues, while maintaining that the executive had failed to deliver the results the company needed.

The roots of the conflict date back to the death of Leonardo Del Vecchio Sr. in June 2022. The founder of the business empire divided ownership of the family holding company, Delfin, equally among his eight heirs, giving each a 12.5% stake.

The ownership structure was designed to preserve a balance of power within the family. In practice, however, it has made major decisions dependent on broad agreement among the heirs.

Delfin owns approximately 32.4% of EssilorLuxottica, along with substantial stakes in the banking and insurance sectors, including UniCredit and Monte dei Paschi di Siena.

Del Vecchio is seeking greater control, arguing that consolidating ownership would make it easier to implement his father’s strategic vision and ensure the holding company’s stability. He aims to increase his stake from 12.5% to 37.5%. If successful, he would become Delfin’s largest shareholder, potentially bringing an end to years of uncertainty over control of the empire his father built.

The heir’s name has also been linked to controversy in the past.

In 2023, he became engaged to actress Jessica Serfaty.

Shortly after the engagement, Serfaty accused Del Vecchio of abuse, but later withdrew her allegations. In a subsequent interview with The New York Times, she said she had done so under pressure. Del Vecchio did not comment on that report.

According to Bloomberg, the heir has also disclosed debts totaling approximately €950 million. Around €500 million consists of personal loans, while the remainder is linked to investments made through his company, LMDV Capital.
