At this time of year, everyone needs a cozy sweater to lift their spirits — and the King of the United Kingdom is no exception. King Charles III has stepped into the role of designer, contributing a vibrant watercolor painting of Birkhall, his “dear-to-his-heart” residence on the Balmoral estate in Scotland, to a new Burberry collection, The Telegraph reports.
The collection marks the fifth collaboration between Highgrove Gardens, the King’s private retreat in Gloucestershire, and the British fashion house, which celebrates its 170th anniversary in 2026. Alongside sweaters, the capsule collection features signature trench coats and a cashmere scarf. All the pieces draw on the rich, nature-inspired color palette of the monarch’s artwork.

Charles’s watercolor features on a £1,350 cashmere sweater, with the image rendered using the intarsia technique, in which different-colored yarns are knitted together to create a pattern directly in the fabric. Another piece is a £375 silk scarf featuring the same landscape, framed by Burberry’s signature check pattern.

“It is a great honor for Burberry to present a watercolor painting by His Majesty the King,” the British fashion house said in a statement. “The painting depicts Birkhall on the Balmoral estate. It has become the centerpiece of the collection’s prints and inspired its rich, nature-inspired color palette.”
The partnership between Burberry and Highgrove Gardens began in spring 2023. Previous collections have featured work by external artists, including Helen Bullock and Holly Mills, who created illustrations inspired by Highgrove and its celebrated gardens, which hold a special place in the King’s heart.
Mills, for instance, dedicated her artwork to delphiniums, Charles’s favorite flowers.

The monarch has long been passionate about watercolor painting and has created numerous works over the years. His paintings have already featured in commercial products, including silk scarves sold at the Highgrove gift shop and fine bone china tea sets produced in collaboration with Halcyon Days.
Against this backdrop, Charles’s decision to contribute his own artwork to Burberry’s collection for the brand’s landmark anniversary seems only fitting.
The King’s connection with the British fashion house goes back decades. In 2001, when he was still the Prince of Wales, Charles was pictured wearing Burberry’s signature check at the charity Burberry Cup polo match, held at Cirencester Park Polo Club.
