Dubai to Open the World’s First Gold-Plated Pedestrian Walkway

22:21, October 29

Dubai is preparing a new attraction for those who associate the city with luxury and record-breaking extravagance. By the end of 2026, the emirate plans to open a pedestrian walkway made of 24-karat gold. The project is being billed by its organisers as the world’s first and longest gold walkway.

According to Emirati newspaper Emarat Al Youm, the project was announced by Rashid Al Hamoudi, Senior Commercial Director at Dubai Gold District. He said the walkway is expected to open before the end of the year, although an exact date has yet to be announced.

The unusual attraction will be located in Dubai Gold District, a retail hub in the Deira neighbourhood known for its jewellery shops and trade in gold and precious ornaments. The initiative is intended not only to impress visitors but also to reinforce Dubai’s position as one of the world’s leading gold trading centres.

Details of the project remain under wraps. The organisers have not disclosed the exact length of the walkway, the amount of gold to be used or the specifications of its surface. It is therefore too early to imagine a street paved entirely with solid gold bars. Even so, the concept already sounds tailor-made for striking photographs and a new tourist attraction.

Dubai Gold District opened in January 2026. Today, it is a major retail destination bringing together more than 1,000 outlets selling jewellery, gold, perfumes, cosmetics and other goods. The gold walkway is expected to give visitors another reason to stop by, not just to shop but also to experience something out of the ordinary.

It is not the district’s only ambitious project. Plans are also underway to create a major exhibition space dedicated to the gold and jewellery trade, further strengthening Dubai’s position in the international precious metals market.

Meanwhile, the city continues to make headlines with its gold-related records. In late October, Dubai unveiled a pair of traditional Indian jhumka earrings weighing 16.514 kilograms. Made from 22-karat gold by Joyalukkas, the earrings received two Guinness World Records titles: the heaviest pair of gold earrings and the largest pair of earrings in the world. They are not intended for sale and are set to remain in Dubai as part of a permanent exhibition.

If the project goes ahead as planned, Dubai will gain yet another attraction that perfectly reflects its ambition to transform everyday objects into symbols of luxury.
