Kanye West apparently decided that a stranger's $295 million mansion was the perfect place to get some work done, even though no one had invited him. The rapper reportedly set up a workspace by the pool and held meetings there, despite having no permission to use the property. The unusual story has come to light in a new biography of his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian.
According to the New York Post, the incident is recounted in Citizen Kim, a book by journalist Jonathan Van Meter about Kardashian's life and career. The visit reportedly took place in 2022, when the mansion belonged to Maria and Bill Bell.
Known as Big Ando, the approximately 42,000-square-foot property was designed by renowned Japanese architect Tadao Ando. The spacious residence, with its sweeping ocean views, is one of Malibu's most distinctive private homes. In 2023, it was purchased by Jay-Z and Beyoncé for a record-breaking $200 million.
The story of West's unexpected visit is particularly striking given his own real estate history in the area. In 2021, the rapper bought a nearby house, also designed by Ando, for $57.25 million. During renovations, however, he reportedly ordered much of the interior, along with the windows, plumbing and electrical systems, to be removed, with plans to transform the property into a minimalist retreat resembling a bunker.
The renovation was never completed. After abandoning the project, West put the house on the market for $53 million, but eventually sold it in 2024 for approximately $21 million, far below its original purchase price. The property's story continued without the musician, as its new owners reportedly faced difficulties restoring the building and reselling it.
Meanwhile, Citizen Kim sheds light on other aspects of Kardashian's life, including the challenges of her relationship with her ex-husband and their efforts to raise their four children together. According to media reports, she is now trying to shield the children from the public conflicts surrounding West.
