A video showing a groom's outrageous behavior at his own wedding has taken social media by storm. In a rather unconventional way of celebrating his big “I do,” the man skipped the traditional altar kiss, buried his face in his bride's cleavage and began shaking his head. His provocative stunt made the newlywed burst into laughter but left etiquette experts outraged.
The bizarre incident took place during the wedding ceremony of Adeline and Riley at Southwood Estate in Canada. By that point, the couple had already weathered an unexpected rain shower and were finally ready for their first kiss after exchanging vows.
But instead of a romantic moment, Riley decided to put on quite a show. He suddenly buried his face in the strapless neckline of his bride's wedding dress, vigorously shook his head and then triumphantly raised his fists in front of the guests.
Adeline burst out laughing, clearly caught off guard by her husband's antics. The video was shared on TikTok by the wedding officiant, Nathan Grieve, who admitted he had never witnessed anything quite like it.
“Riley decided to celebrate having a new wife in his life in a way that will undoubtedly be remembered at family gatherings for years to come,” Grieve captioned the clip.
And the wedding chaos did not end there. As the newlyweds made their way back down the aisle, the music planned for their exit failed to play. Instead, a deafening car horn blared from a nearby parking lot.
“Perfect moment. Perfect chaos. Absolutely classic Riley and Adeline,” Grieve joked.
Not everyone, however, appreciated the groom's sense of humor. Etiquette expert Jo Hayes strongly condemned his behavior, calling it “completely inappropriate.”
“From what we can see in the video, it appears to have been consensual: the bride doesn't look shocked or surprised, and she makes no attempt to stop him. But this is a wedding ceremony,” she told news.com.au.
According to Hayes, sexual innuendo and explicit gestures have no place at an event attended by family and friends.
“There may well be children among the guests, and this is certainly not something they should have to witness. Even adults could find such behavior extremely uncomfortable,” she explained.
The expert suggested that Riley may have been inspired by the Hollywood comedy Wedding Crashers, attempting to recreate one of its provocative jokes. However, she advised him to save such antics for another occasion.
The video has already attracted more than 270,000 views and sparked heated debate online. Many users considered the groom's stunt disrespectful to his bride and both families.
“This is literally a combination of everything you should never do at your own wedding,” one commenter wrote.
Another said the behavior would be a serious red flag: “It shows disrespect toward her and both families. My husband makes inappropriate jokes all the time, but you would never see him behaving like that in front of other people.”
“And he did that in front of the bride's parents?! Disgusting!” another user exclaimed.
Some commenters even questioned whether the footage was genuine, describing the entire scene as painfully awkward and tasteless.
