Nicola Peltz seems to be drawing increasingly more inspiration from the style of her famous mother-in-law, Victoria Beckham. And according to a psychologist, it may be more than a coincidence: the actress could be unconsciously trying to show that she is just as confident and influential as the former Spice Girls star.

Over the weekend, 31-year-old Nicola and her husband, 27-year-old Brooklyn Beckham, shared their Halloween costumes on Instagram. The actress transformed into Catwoman, wearing a leather top and figure-hugging trousers. Fans were quick to spot the resemblance to Victoria’s iconic leather jumpsuit from the Spice Girls’ 1996 music video for Say You’ll Be There. That very outfit reportedly caught the eye of Victoria’s future husband, David Beckham.

“Say You’ll Be There: Part Two!” one user joked. Another suggested that Brooklyn must be missing Posh Spice. Nicola’s look also reminded fans of the matching leather outfits worn by Victoria and David at a Versace party in 1999. Some, meanwhile, questioned why the actress had chosen matching costumes with her friend Damian Hurley rather than her husband.

Nicola and Brooklyn have been estranged from his parents for more than a year. In January 2026, Brooklyn publicly announced that he had cut ties with his family. Yet despite the ongoing rift, his wife continues to step out in outfits that evoke Victoria’s signature style.

Phil McLeod, a psychologist and founder of the Thought Reader project, told the Daily Mail that the behaviour could be an example of so-called mirroring — the unconscious imitation of another person’s style, mannerisms and habits.

“The people who have the greatest influence on us are not always those we are close to. Sometimes they are people with whom we have complicated relationships. Mirroring can be about more than a desire to connect; it can also stem from rivalry or an attempt to demonstrate one’s own power,” he explained.

According to McLeod, Nicola’s outfits resembling Victoria’s looks, along with her apparent imitation of the designer’s famous poses, could be a way of asserting herself and showing that she is no less confident or influential than her mother-in-law. The psychologist suggested that the similarities may have started by chance, but that the actress could now be deliberately embracing them. Alternatively, Nicola may simply be unaware of the comparisons and wearing whatever she likes.

This is not the first time the actress has dipped into Victoria’s fashion archive. In 2024, she stepped out in the very same Dolce & Gabbana leather jacket the designer had worn in 2001. Originally priced at £965, the vintage piece is now listed for as much as £7,800. Naomi Campbell, Madonna and Jennifer Saunders were also fans of the jacket at the time.

Earlier this year, Nicola also recreated Victoria’s famous high-leg pose while preparing to play a ballerina in the film Prima. Fans have spotted another signature Beckham detail in her everyday wardrobe, too: the combination of a simple tank top and a baseball cap — an outfit Victoria has worn for years, often pairing it with a Yankees cap.
