Makeup testers in cosmetic stores can be hazardous, as there is a risk of contracting herpes, staphylococcus and Escherichia coli, NY Post reported.
Samples were taken from cosmetics stores, which all visitors can use and were placed in test tubes with a nutrient medium. Five days later they were referred to an infectious disease specialist.
When examining the samples, Dr. Arash Poursina of the Piedmont Medical Center noted that two of them are carriers of staphylococcus species and are deadly. Analysis of the remaining samples showed the presence of herpes and E. coli.
“Even sexually transmitted diseases can be transmitted by sharing makeup,” Poursina said.
