Elizabeth II cancels Prince Andrew’s 60th birthday party amid sex scandal

13:36, November 25

Prince Andrew is called the beloved son of Queen Elizabeth II of England. However, the mommy’s favorite led the monarchy to a crisis. The scandal involving the Duke of York cast a shadow not only on his work, but also on other members of the royal family, as well as on the wedding of his own daughter.

After the interview with BBC journalist Emily Maitlis, the queen’s son had dark times. His statements about friendship with the American financier Jeffrey Epstein became resonant.

The Duke of York's inappropriate interview for BBC Newsnight was not pre-approved by the Queen, as previously reported. Such statements once again upset Her Majesty.

The consequences were not long in coming. Elizabeth II decided to remove her son from royal duties and deprive him of salary.

As it turned out, Prince William also played an important role in this decision. It was he who insisted on such an unprecedented removal.

A source told the Sunday Times William had spoken to the Queen and Charles about Andrew’s future and believed his removal from public life was ‘the right thing to do,’ Daily Mail reported.

They said: ‘William is becoming more and more involved in decisions about the institution [the monarchy] and he’s not a huge fan of his uncle Andrew.’
