Renowned American jazz pianist and composer Chick Corea has died, reported the musician's official website.

"It is with great sadness we announce that on February 9th, Chick Corea passed away at the age of 79, from a rare form of cancer which was only discovered very recently," the website reports in part.

Chick Corea has won the Grammy Award 23 times, he is included in the DownBeat Jazz Hall of Fame, which is one of the most prestigious for musicians on the world jazz stage.

In 2000, Chick Correa had performed with his band during the Yerevan Jazz Fest.
