Meghan Markle to receive $1.8 million through court for publication of letter to her father

20:01, March 3

Meghan Markle finally won the lawsuit that The Mail On Sunday and MailOnline had filed against Associated Newspapers. The court ruled that the defendant must pay 90% of court expenses, that is, $1.87 million.

The Duchess of Sussex also asked to transmit the copies of the letter to her, delete all references and demand that the newspaper publish an apology for the articles that had offended her. On Feb. 11, the court ruled that Associated Newspapers had infringed on her copyright in the letter.

In 2019, Associated Newspapers released a series of articles citing the letter that the Duchess of Sussex had addressed to her father, Thomas Markle. Meghan’s attorneys claimed that reporters had persecuted and humiliated the Duchess and deliberately cut her words from the context.

In October 2019, Prince Harry also made an official statement and stated that the mockery of his wife in the presses went too far. “I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditized to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces,” he said. In a recent interview with American host James Corden, Prince Harry explained that the pressure of the press was the main reason why he moved with his family to the United States.
