Sylvester Stallone's watches, including ‘Holy Grail’ of his collection, to be auctioned

20:26, May 8

Sylvester Stallone's watches, including the "holy grail" of his collection, will go under the hammer.

Shortly after Stallone finished filming Rocky, the movie that launched his Hollywood career, he saw Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers Band sleeping, wearing a gold watch. The watch was "the most beautiful thing I've ever seen," Stallone said in a video posted by Sotheby's, and sparked his decades-long love of watch collecting, CNN reported.

And on June 5, the Hollywood star is putting up 11 watches from his personal collection for auction at Sotheby's in New York.

The collection includes a rare Patek Philippe Grandmaster Chime that is expected to sell for $5 million, as well as watches he wore in some of his films.

A total of seven Grandmaster Chime models were produced, considering that it is the most complex wristwatch ever made by the renowned luxury watch makers.

As a result, Sotheby's called it the "Holy Grail" for watch collectors. The model is equipped with 20 complications—functions that go beyond telling the time—such as five strike mechanisms and a date repeater, which indicates the date and time with an audible signal.

“It’s not easy to achieve,” Stallone said. “I had to approach certain authorities, write many letters, and in the end it was decided that I would become the owner of one of these magnificent works of art.”

The watch comes also with other memorabilia, including a gift box engraved with Stallone's name, as well as an iPad and Airpods complete with a Patek Phillipe case.

Another Patek Philippe watch from the Nautilus family is expected to sell for up to $400,000. The olive green dial is surrounded by 32 Wesselton cut diamonds and is housed in a stainless steel case.

The auction includes several other famous watchmakers, including models worn by Stallone in the movies.

A Rolex watch, released in 2016 to commemorate the model's 60th anniversary, is valued at $50,000. Meanwhile, an Audemars Piguet watch, with a blue dial and rose gold case, is valued at $200,000.

Also up for auction are several Panerai watches, a brand Stallone long championed and wore in the 1996 film Daylight. The model created especially for him, with an engraving on the back, is expected to sell for $60,000.
