Apple Music unveils top 100 albums’ final list

14:14, May 23

Apple Music has revealed its final list of the top 100 albums. The comprehensive collection focuses on the music of the last century, highlighting modern favorites released over the past few years, classic recordings that have transcended decades, including a noteworthy selection of albums from UK artists, reports Hypebeast

“We were tasked with selecting the top 100—a mission that was almost impossible,” shares Apple Music radio host and team member Zane Lowe, reflecting on the painstaking process.

At first glance, the Top 100 Albums list shows that the vast majority of places are dedicated to UK artists.

The UK produced a number of landmark albums that paved the way for the formation of new genres. For example, OK Computer by Radiohead, The Rise, Fall of Ziggy Stardust, and the Spiders From Mars by David Bowie.

However, with her album Back to Black reaching number eight, it was the late queen of modern jazz, Amy Winehouse, who personified alternative music in the UK. Her blend of jazz with RnB, soul and even reggae exudes an unmistakable blend of sounds, replete with an oldie feel, but balanced by raw and unfiltered lyrics.

And the top ten albums on this list are:

Lemonade (2016), Beyoncé

Nevermind (1991), Nirvana

Back to Black (2006), Amy Winehouse

good kid, m.A.A.d city (2012), Kendrick Lamar

Songs in the Key of Life (1976), Stevie Wonder

Blonde (2016), Frank Ocean

Purple Rain (1984), Prince & The Revolution

Abbey Road (1969), The Beatles

Thriller (1982), Michael Jackson

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill (1998), Lauryn Hill
