Johnny Depp will play Satan opposite Jeff Bridges as God in filmmaker Terry Gilliam's The Carnival at the End of Days.
Gilliam himself, who directed Depp in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, announced the news at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival in France.
“We are trying to determine exactly when and where this will be done. Filming is currently scheduled for January next year. Let's see. And I have a pretty good cast: Johnny Depp, Jeff Bridges, Adam Driver and Jason Momoa,” Gilliam said.
He described this movie as "a comedy in which God decides to destroy humanity." And the only one who is trying to save us is Satan.” According to Gilliam, Satan is trying to save humanity: “Because he needs people in hell, otherwise he will never have a job!”
Gilliam added that his cast "needs a woman to round it all off," although he did not specify who he was considering for the female part. This woman will play the “modern” Eve, along with the modern Adam whom Satan introduces to God.
