A rare 1958 Leica MP2 camera went under the hammer for 1,560,000 euros at the Leitz Photographica Auction in Wetzlar, Germany.
The Leica MP2 was developed in the late 1950s as part of a series of tests on cameras designed for photojournalism. Only 27 Leica MP2s were made.
“We are especially pleased that our auction house was able to achieve a result of 1,560,000 euros for the Leica MP2 on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the legendary Leica M,” said Managing Director of Leitz Photographica Auction, Alexander Sedlak. “The result underscores the exceptional popularity that the Leica M system continues to enjoy today among both collectors and professional photographers.”
