Justin Timberlake was arrested in New York for drunk driving. The singer has been formally charged, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said in a statement.

Timberlake was arrested in Sag Harbor in the Hamptons, a popular celebrity destination on Long Island. He was released without bail after being formally charged.

Law enforcement sources told TMZ that the singer was stopped by police after he ran a stop sign.

Timberlake took a field sobriety test and was asked to take a breathalyzer test, which he refused. Several friends arrived at the scene and tried to convince officers to cut him some slack, but he was handcuffed and arrested.

A source told The Daily Mail that "Justin was out to dinner with friends and there were police cars outside the restaurant, as usual."

“They look for people who leave after midnight and who may be drunk. Justin left at 12:30 a.m. and was stopped as soon as he left. No one was injured and there was no drama at the scene."

Timberlake was charged with one count of driving under the influence, as well as one count of running a stop sign and failure to maintain lane. He will appear in court on July 26.

Also, Timberlake's driver's license was revoked in New York State for refusing to take a breathalyzer.
