22:10, June 20

A titan arum, dubbed the "corpse flower" because of its foul odor, has bloomed at the UK's Kew Gardens, where queues of visitors have lined up eager to smell it despite its foul aroma.

A huge Titan arum bloomed Tuesday, prompting people from all corners of the UK capital and beyond to come and appreciate this "magnificent sight and disgusting smell" which has been likened to rotting flesh. A famous garden center in southwest London says the plant usually attracts thousands of visitors.

Titan arum usually blooms once every two years. When flowering, it emits the smell of rotting flesh. This is due to the fact that its spine produces heat, which allows the scent to spread and attract pollinators.

This plant, which even resembles a piece of meat in color, has the world's largest flowering structure, growing to almost 3 meters in height. The flower is one of the most fragrant plants on Earth.
