Man considering divorce because wife can't, won't cook

22:18, October 17

The way to a man's heart is through his stomach. And if that stomach isn't happy, it can affect the relationship. A Reddit user has revealed to the world that he's considering divorce because his wife can't and won't cook.

The man shared his culinary dilemma online, admitting that his 31-year-old wife is so helpless in the kitchen that he's starting to suspect she's doing it on purpose.

"Overall, everything is great, but one thing that bothers me is that my wife can't cook - at all," the 28-year-old wrote on the popular Reddit forum: "Am I an idiot?"

According to him, he always did the cooking, and at first, he was fine with it because he enjoys cooking. Now, however, he says it's become a burden. He is forced to cook after a “long day at work” while his wife hangs around the house. Despite his best efforts to teach her how to cook, “she’s really bad at it.” He admitted that he didn’t know she couldn’t cook until they got married and “can’t tell if she does it on purpose,” calling it a “breakdown in the relationship.”

“She refuses to cook and claims there’s nothing wrong with her not being able to cook,” he continued. “It’s been an ongoing issue between us.”

The problem came to a head when his mother came over for dinner and offered to help her cook, handing his wife a knife to cut fruit, who “couldn’t figure out how to hold it properly.” The mother-in-law found it pathetic and reported it to her daughter-in-law. After she left, the wife was furious that he “didn’t protect her” and “embarrassed her.” Now his wife thinks he’s a “jerk.”

Most agreed that a wife should be able to cook simple meals and know how to cut food.

The sufferer himself plans to attend marriage counseling and cooking classes with his wife. “If nothing changes, I’m leaving,” he added.

A Harvard Business School study found that household chores can be a cause of breakup for couples. According to the study, 25 percent of participants said they filed for divorce because of “disagreements over housework,” which was the third-leading reason for divorce.
