Media mogul David Geffen, 82, is facing explosive allegations from his 32-year-old husband, Donovan Michaels (also known as David Armstrong), who has filed a lawsuit accusing the billionaire of “systematic exploitation,” emotional abuse, and breach of a personal agreement.

According to court documents obtained by the Daily Mail, Michaels claims their relationship began in 2016 when he was struggling financially in Florida and signed up on SeekingArrangements.com — an elite platform where wealthy individuals connect with younger partners for “mutually beneficial” relationships. It was there that he says Geffen first contacted him. On the night they met, Michaels alleges he was paid $10,000 for sexual services.

Their dynamic reportedly evolved into a romantic relationship. Michaels says Geffen promised him lifelong support, love, shared assets, and the status of an equal life partner.

“He told me he loved me. I believed we were serious, and I gave up my dreams, career, and independence for him,” the lawsuit reads.

The situation allegedly took a dramatic turn in June 2024. While Geffen was hosting an exclusive gathering aboard his luxury yacht in Venice ahead of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding, he reportedly ordered Michaels to vacate their New York home immediately. At the same time, all financial support was cut off, leaving Michaels homeless and without income.

“Publicly, he presents himself as a philanthropist who donates millions to help the homeless — but behind closed doors, he left his own spouse without a home,” said Michaels’ legal team.

The lawsuit paints a picture of increasing control and psychological manipulation. Michaels accuses Geffen of berating him over minor flaws, imposing strict appearance standards, and demanding painful cosmetic procedures, including laser hair removal and dental work.

“Even an ingrown hair would trigger his anger. He dictated how I looked, how I acted. I wasn’t a partner — I was a possession,” the filing claims.

Michaels further alleges that behind Geffen’s lavish generosity was a calculated performance. He claims Geffen used him as a “social experiment” and “trophy,” parading their relationship in front of elite circles to enhance his image as a benevolent figure who had “rescued” a vulnerable young man.

“He pretended to help, but he exploited my vulnerabilities for his own gratification and public image. I became a sex object and a visual accessory,” Michaels says.

The couple reportedly married in 2023 without a prenuptial agreement — a detail that could significantly complicate asset division, given Geffen’s estimated net worth of $9 billion.

As of now, Geffen has not publicly commented on the lawsuit.
