Lexus transforms iconic LS Sedan into futuristic six-wheeled mini-van

19:21, October 30

Japanese luxury automaker Lexus unveiled a bold concept based on its flagship LS at the Japan Mobility Show on Wednesday. Rather than the traditional sedan shape, the prototype takes the form of an ultra-luxurious six-wheeled mini-van, reports Robb Report.

Design and Unique Layout

During the presentation, Lexus Chief Brand Officer Simon Humphries acknowledged that sedans are “losing the battle to SUVs.” The new LS concept is now a long mini-van featuring an extra set of wheels: large front wheels and two smaller rear wheels. Humphries explained that LS now stands for “Luxury Space” instead of “Luxury Sedan.” The extended wheelbase creates a cabin that feels more spacious than any previous LS. Large windows and dual parallel sunroofs enhance the airy feel, while manual blinds and curtains provide privacy.

Interior for Relaxation and Entertainment

The cabin offers a wealth of comfort features. Seating includes two oversized captain’s chairs, a sliding sofa that converts into a bed, and space for a third row. At the rear, a 48-inch retractable screen is available for movies, TV shows, or sports events.

The concept is powered by an electric motor and designed for chauffeur-driven operation. The front cockpit features a yoke-style steering wheel and a modern digital display, with front seats that can rotate to face the rear.

Production Prospects

Currently, Lexus does not have a platform to accommodate a six-wheeled mini-van, making mass production unlikely. However, the standard LS sedan is expected to be discontinued after 2026, leaving a window of opportunity for this futuristic concept to influence future models.
