Chopard unveils its most complicated watch yet: The L.U.C Grand Strike

19:52, November 19

At Dubai Watch Week, Swiss luxury watchmaker Chopard unveiled its most complex timepiece to date: the L.U.C Grand Strike, reports Robb Report.

The creation of the L.U.C Grand Strike required 11,000 hours of research and development, including 2,500 hours fine-tuning the prototype. The watch features 686 components housed in a 43 × 14.08 mm 18-karat gold case. Its standout feature is a “dial-less display”, allowing a full view of the intricate mechanisms at work.

Operation has been simplified despite the complexity: a slider switches between “G” (Grand), “P” (Petit), and “S” (Silent) modes, while a flanged crown manages the winding of both the main barrel and the striking barrel. At 6 o’clock, a tourbillon with a seconds hand and stop-seconds function adds to the technical prowess.

The L.U.C Grand Strike also boasts sapphire gongs integrated with a sapphire dial, delivering a clearer, richer chime.

In addition to its technical feats, the watch carries the Poinçon de Genève, certifying the highest standards of quality, assembly, and finishing. The mainplate and bridges are crafted from German silver, a hallmark material in Chopard’s finest watches.

Despite its complex mechanics, the watch offers a 70-hour power reserve and is produced in extreme exclusivity—around three pieces per year.
