Why “naked” Christmas trees are taking over Instagram
Bare, minimalist Christmas trees—stripped of ornaments, tinsel, and sometimes even lights—are becoming a viral trend on social media. Some are lit only with soft white lights, while others stand completely unadorned, relying on clean lines and natural elegance.
Hollywood stars like Julianne Moore, Michelle Pfeiffer, Victoria Beckham, and Khloé Kardashian have embraced the style, swapping traditional decorations for simplicity and quiet sophistication.
Not everyone is a fan, though. One social media user wrote: “You just have no taste. Ornaments are a must,” rejecting the bare aesthetic entirely.
Designers call them “ornament-free” or “almost naked” trees—a symbol that minimalism has finally reached holiday decor.
Why people choose minimalist trees:

Still, classic Christmas trees remain beloved for those who cherish nostalgia, family traditions, and ornaments collected over the years.
“I can tell the story behind every single ornament, and I wouldn’t trade that for the most ‘perfect’ tree,” one user shared. Another added, “The traditional Christmas tree will always be in style.”
