Think a radical makeover is strictly for people? Take a look at the reimagined Cocoon Dichroic chair, unveiled at Milan Design Week 2026. This ethereal new take on the famous furniture piece from Louis Vuitton’s Objets Nomades collection is wild, eccentric, memorable, and unbelievably luxurious.

French artist Géraldine Gonzalez has reinterpreted the iconic masterpiece by the legendary Campana brothers. The Brazilian design duo Fernando and Humberto Campana originally created the Cocoon chair for the Objets Nomades line—a Louis Vuitton design collection launched back in 2012 to transform travel-inspired ideas into extraordinary furniture and art objects. The original version of the chair, with its perforated outer shell, resembled an organic cocoon or the pod of an exotic flower on the verge of blooming. This latest modification honors that creative heritage, cementing the Cocoon’s status as one of the collection's most recognizable silhouettes.

Architecture Frozen in Glass

In its newest iteration, the Cocoon has morphed into a futuristic, almost alien, iridescent chair. Its source of inspiration was the shimmering glass facade of the Maison Louis Vuitton Sanlitun flagship boutique in Beijing. The store's exterior is clad in multi-layered glass panels that dynamically shift appearance depending on the light and viewing angle. The new chair looks like a miniature furniture interpretation of this grand architectural concept.

Bringing the Cocoon Dichroic to life demanded three months of meticulous handcrafting by Géraldine Gonzalez. The artist hand-cut and molded each of the numerous "petals" from dichroic glass. The defining characteristic of this material is that it radically changes color based on the angle of the light and the position of the observer, creating the perfect illusion that the chair is continuously transforming and alive.

The result of this collaboration is a one-of-a-kind chair priced at $167,000. However, calling this piece a mere item of furniture would be an understatement. At this price point, the Cocoon Dichroic firmly enters the category of highly collectible investment design, occupying a niche for limited-edition fine art rather than traditional home decor.
