Netflix announces new series about “forbidden love”: Aristotle and Alexander the Great take center stage

14:16, March 11

The creative minds behind the critically acclaimed “Heated Rivalry” and hit series “Ozark” are joining forces for a new historical drama on Netflix: “Alexander”, based on Annabel Lyon’s bestselling 2010 novel The Golden Mean. The show promises palace intrigue, forbidden love, brutal wars, and ruthless ambition that shaped the course of history.

Actor, director, and writer Jacob Tierney, known for his work on Heated Rivalry, and actor-director Jason Bateman, famed for portraying Marty Byrde in Ozark, are both attached. Bateman will also serve as producer and direct several episodes, promising to explore the darker and more intimate aspects of ancient history.

“I fell in love with Annabel Lyon’s book years ago and have dreamed of telling this story ever since,” Tierney admitted.

The plot follows Aristotle and the young Alexander, whose unexpected friendship helps forge an empire amidst political intrigue, bloody battles, and forbidden passion.

Meanwhile, fans of Heated Rivalry have reason to celebrate: the series about gay hockey players is returning for a second season, with filming set to begin in August and release expected in April 2027.
